How can i install Icaros Desktop on my computer

The Disk 1 is the remove USB stick (so the pendrive)
and the disk 0 is the internal SSD.

So the USB Stick and the device where you burned the USB image, right?

If Disk 0 "SSD" may not be supported, I have never tested with AROS SSD disks.

Have you tried changing drives and Device (IDE-SATA) ?

SSD Works with Aros i use it at the moment

It is not the HD that matters, it is the controller to which the HD is connected that might be a problem.

Ask user sudolinux to check out pcitool when he booted icaros desktop from the USB pendrive before installing. Perhaps there is some information in the Hardware Compatibility List about his/her specific hardware.

@sudolinux: whatever you do and in case the already existing partitions are valuable to you: make a backup first (you wrote you already did but want to make sure you actually do)

Ok yeah, im going to run the pcitool on icarOS to see whats the deal here, my bios doesnt have any option for emulating other interfaces.

Booting from (u)efi can be tricky, see also the wikibook part in my sig (although much information written there is old and scattered around the wikibook). At the wikibook you can also find the HCL.


If you are truly unable to boot in bios/legacy mode then you can't really rely on the (default) icaros installer and you would need to adjust things manually and for your particular setup (can't help with that without actually having the same hardware, as it would be guessing).


Other (easier) options are then to do an actual /install/ of icaros to a pendrive (easiest done from a VM iso-image boot then install to USB pendrive device), but seeing the specs on your hardware you are probably better off running AROS in a VM or hosted. The latter two options is just a personal opinion as i personally don't find it worth all the hassle for the other options.


fwiw: if you run icaros form the pendrive you can already test a few thing to see if they work on your setup or not (audio/video support).

Ok, so i retried to reboot to my pendrive and now it gives me this, i did retry to restore the pendrive image, so something happened to my usb drive, is it busted or something ?

Actually physical destroying your pendrive is /almost/ impossible (unless you used a hammer or a saw    ).

Usually you can fix such things by writing the (raw) image file to the pendrive again.

Note that there are pendrives that use a very big/slow cache when writing to it. It reminds me of old TDK pendrives i had that took about 3 minutes (after aros indicated it was done with installing itself onto such a pendrive) before the drive was actually finished (luckily for me the pendrive had a small read/write indicator light).

Long story short: if you were able to boot from the Icaros Desktop pendrive and was able to play around a little then you can also install Icaros to the pendrive and boot from it as there is no difference there. Most BIOS' are able to boot from legacy USB (your machine should be able to as well, although that conclusion is based on the year in which your hardware was released). what brand laptop you tried this on HP ? lenovo ? other ?

I have no idea what has gone wrong there for you but the cat eyes is an indication that it can't find the boot device that contains the aros boot-partition/files.

hmm yeah it seems like, maybe its the program problems i use to restore the files problem, im gonna try with a other program

If you don't mind then let's rewind a little there as things can become a bit overwhelming, especially when multiple people are suggesting things.

1) Are you able to download and raw-image-copy the icaros desktop pendrive image to your pendrive ? Note the remark about the first 512 bytes
2) are you then able to boot AROS (without problem) from that pendrive you just created ?

If both question are answered with yes then what did you do to get yourself into the problem as you described ? If any of the answer is is no then please elaborate what did go wrong were exactly.

It happened to me too on some laptops if it does not recognize the USB port does not boot, try seeing in the bios regarding the USB ports and if there is a compatibility in Legacy mode
