@sudolinux:

If you don't mind then let's rewind a little there as things can become a bit overwhelming, especially when multiple people are suggesting things.

1) Are you able to download and raw-image-copy the icaros desktop pendrive image to your pendrive ? Note the remark about the first 512 bytes
2) are you then able to boot AROS (without problem) from that pendrive you just created ?

If both question are answered with yes then what did you do to get yourself into the problem as you described ? If any of the answer is is no then please elaborate what did go wrong were exactly.

so it seems that if i plug the USB into the third USB port, it boots to IcarOS

the sounds seems to work, although i couldn't test 3D acceleration although and networking.

There is no 3D acceleration for the Radeon

oh too bad, after reflection im not going to install icarOS to my computer, but rather use it if my computer has a problem, i do have multiple pendrives on linux that do job perfectly, but its also good to have an icarOS pendrive.

You are working on a new project, if there are distributions behind this you will no longer have problems installing Aros, the base of the system will be Linux

Ah nice, i know a lot about linux, so when they will change the base to linux, it will probably be much easier.

That is why i asked (modified my post afterwards so you might have missed it) what brand laptop you are trying this on.

Most hardware around that time-period use a different header for 'legacy' USB boot devices. You just have to find the right one (as you experienced)  :)

Can be a hit or miss.

Especially the newer hardware is problematic. There are simply too many different hardware brands for AROS to be able to support them all (they require different drivers or modification to existing drivers: manpower)

That is understandable. It is difficult to find hardware that is 100% compatible with AROS (salvo is doing an excellent job though in trying to find/locate such hardware).

As a sidenote: AROS runs blazingly fast simply because how things are implemented internally. The hardware you described is perfectly capable of running AROS inside a VM (you hardly noticed the difference between native and VM, unless doing 3d-stuff). A VM is also capable of emulating hardware devices so that AROS can make use of those that AROS supports (requires some VM configuration).

Not so difficult if they are used desktop computers, the new ones are not compatible for the ACHI sub -system which is not implemented

Ok, so i retried to reboot to my pendrive and now it gives me this, i did retry to restore the pendrive image, so something happened to my usb drive, is it busted or something ?

thanks

When this screen appeared to me, I just removed and reinserted the pen drive and loading continues.

Glinx , you probably had a USB conflict or the Pendrive was not written correctly by the burning software.

I have installed AROS dozens of times on Pendrive on many PCs and never had any problems of this type

...and fwiw, icaros light pendrive version installed using ahci to ssd, no problem. Full cd versions didn't (ahci crashed before installation finished). Whilst using icaros desktop light (pendrive installation) on ahci, any programme that crashed the computer i simply copied to the ram disk first before running.

...now back to my donuts (plural) :)

I really don't know, just unplugging and reinserting it continued the loading (EDIT: using ahci )
Now I've collected different hardware and dvd drive etc so no longer an issue. Gives me more donut time :)
