Hello AROS-/Amgia-Community,

I have looked for a while for new OS I can using and found AROS. I tried it as VM and want to stay a longer while on finding out OS's functions and possiblities/usecases. I've been interested in OS developing some time ago and wanted to start gaining knowlegde over it now. So I decided to offically joining community in hope, I can increase usability of AROS in day-to-day-scenarios.

Hoping, I'll have a good time here with you.

Greetings,
<Masked>

Out of topic: Does somebody have a tip to learn who AROS works (except Try-and-Error)?

Do you mean "how"? I recommend joining the slack channel:

Well, I never had a Commodore. I informed myself over Commodore to get an overview, but buying one is atm not in range of possiblities. So I'm bounded on my VM and AROS One.

During approx. 1 month I am testing different AROS-Distros and stock-AROS on different computers and laptops from different producers but never got running or not rejecting device. The listed devices above are mainly not in range. Are there any hints or tricks to get closer suggestions of runability on a laptop or computer, which is not listed on cataloge?

That depends on entirely what your issues are.   There are workarounds for many issues but without knowing the issue at hand it's hard to help.    If you're having boot issues and have a null modem cable and a spare pc a boot log is always useful edit your grub line to include debug=serial I would try with an without sysdebug=all in the line as I have personally issues booting on machines with sysdebug=all enabled(corrupts the cpu initialization).   Now as far as hardware goes on a newer machine with an NVME drive you may need to add NVME=disable as the NVME driver could potentially cause lockups.  If you have USB3 only you have another issue all together as machines with USB3 only chipsets won't enable to legacy ports without XHCI drivers. You could buy a USB2 card I found a 4 port one on Amazon for $30 the biggest issue is it's got flakey initialization so works best if you use an external hub with it.  a 16C/32T chip there's another issue disable SMT and it'll boot.

I have one more recent Asus prime x370-pro, I've set Nvme=disable on grub and put my pen in my USB 2.0 ports still it stops in the second boot screen where it asks for media to boot from.
Code: [Select]
menuentry "AROS (native graphics)" {
    multiboot /boot/pc/bootstrap.gz ATA=32bit NVME=disable
    module /boot/pc/kernel.gz
    module /boot/pc/aros-bsp.pkg.gz
    module /boot/aros-base.pkg.gz
    module /boot/aros-fs.pkg.gz
    module /boot/poseidon.pkg.gz

Yes many users are used to aros for many years and know that it takes computers not too recent at least from the bios you must have the ability to use ATA compatibility, cmq there is no need to spend so much money fora workstation compatible with Windows 10

 Are your keyboard and mouse being initialized?   If not you have xhci with legacy emulated usb2 ports which won’t work.
