People here may have seen the recent news that, I must say very unexpectedly, a new and stable verison of PageStream (5.1) has just been released for MorphOS. I use verison 4 (68k) via Jnaus every day for my work, but I never expected to see any further development for Amigoid systems.

For the first time iin years I had a look at the PgseStream forums, and there it was mentioned that the developer thought ther was a lack of interest in it for other Amigaoid systems (AROS along with OS3 & OS4), I've expresed my obvious interest in an AROS version, but I was wondering if anyone else here would like to see PageStream for AROS? If so, I'd make the developer aware  of this.

Cheers,
Nigel.

I had a reply from PageStream's developer, Deron Kazmaier, over on the PageStream forum:

"You may have seen my comments a few weeks ago where I am not apposed to an OS4 or AROS, or even an OS3, version. As I've been recently reminded, MUI is not so much the same across these platforms. Each have ventured in a unique direction. If a cross compiler can be installed, together we can discover how different things have become I will say that AROS is furthest down on my list, simple because I have no experience with it and no customers waiting for it."

So it's  possibility, albeit a little remote. I did mention that a couple of people here are interested, so I guess if anyone else would like to see this happen then please let Deron know over on pagestream.net or let me know to pass on if you don't wish to make an account there.

Cheers,
Nigel.

I think it would be not bad if Zune would be changed to the needed level. Additionally there might be other differences on API level so that sources has to be adapted. Unfortunately that os certainly not a easy task and would need a experienced aros developer.

Can't have customers if there is no product

Definitely would buy a copy.

Im pretty much a customer of any worthwhile AROS software just waiting for said worthwhile software to appear   :)

I buy a lot of games that have engines available for AROS just so I can have software on my AROS software shelf. Always enjoy adding new additions to it.

I will report the interest over on pagestream.net   :D

Yes, MorphOS has most definitely eveolved along its own path. I would suggest the easier base to work off would be the OS3 code. Admitedly the OS3 PageStream 5.0 was unstable but that was also the case for the MosphOS verison and hopefully the fixes there can be applied to the other code bases.

Cheers,
Nigel.

How different is Zune compared to MUI on Mos
I haven't checked the facts, but in my experience Zune is somehow comparable to MUI 3.9 by features. So it's missing some MUI 4/5 features, but it also bugs, or works in a different way, with some features that work even on MUI 3.8 on 68k Amigas.

I have had issues with Zune compatibility with all of my programs when I've ported them to AROS/Zune. Every program has needed some design changes, work-arounds, or even leaving out some features if I want to make them to work with Zune. On other platforms MUI is pretty consistent after all despite the different branches, at least from a 3rd party developer view point. But maybe Frank as a core MorphOS developer has used some more internal stuff with PageStream :)

PageStream wasn't a MUI program originally and it still feels like a "half MUI" program where the MUI conversion is hacked over a different design. So some typical MUI features don't seem to work on it.... which makes me think that it's that kind of code that needs careful manual work to get it built somehow.
