I used my A500+ heavily until the early 2000s, mainly for music (OctaMED). Would be tempted to take it out of the cupboard and set it up again but its E key is broken which makes almost everything a complete nightmare. Did a lot of programming in AmigaE, including some plugins for OctaMED (sample slicing, some simple synthesis).
Looked at AROS briefly maybe a decade ago, but didn't try it as it seemed too early.
These days my primary systems are running Debian Buster, but it's too heavy for some older machines even with a lightweight desktop like XFCE, so I'm investigating AROS again. I would be curious to try to port the Pure-data audio programming environment to AROS, although it does need TCL/Tk for its GUI, and I wouldn't want to have to port that if it hasn't been done already.
It seems like it might be a good time, as some GNU/Linux distros are dropping 32bit i386 support. I have 3 spare i386 32bit machines that I'll use for testing:
Fujitsu Siemens Amilo laptop
Pentium M 1.5GHz
256MB RAM
40GB HDD
screen 1024x768
Intel i915 graphics
Intel 82801DB-ICH4 AC'97 audio (inc modem)
Intel PRO/2200BG Calexico2 wifi card
CD-RW optical drive
no battery
Dell desktop
Pentium 4 3GHz
1GB RAM
250GB HDD
Radeon X300 graphics
Intel AC'97 audio
DVD-RW optical drive
homebuilt desktop
Athlon XP 1.6GHz
currently in a cupboard
don't know how much RAM
probably 80GB HDD
no optical drive as far as I remember
doesn't boot from USB either
