Hello there,
I am a  newcomer  on this  forum, so a few words  on my  own  Icaros desktop experience
I finally  managed to install Icaros Desktop native on a XPC Shuttle SB81P (Pentium 4 , graphics Intel GMA 900) bought cheap for this  purpose.Icaros runs on  VESA mode 1024 x 768.
The  choice to install the  system natively on a  dedicated  machine comes  from my  golden rule : one  PC = one  system. No multiboot for  me. Icaros  desktop is a  true OS destined  to run  on a  true  machine, with  its  own  rsssoureces.
Saying  that, the  installation  process  demanded a  lot  of  patience and  some  trial/error  phases. Let me  point  out  that  I am totally ignorant  when  it  comes  to all  things  Amiga. My systems  of  choice  are Windows XP (offline, a  well tamed  Microsoft  PC is a PC without any Internet access) and  some  Linux  distros (Manjaro for the  everyday tasks and  MX Linux for the experimental side  of things).
First  I had to low level format the HDD : the seller  of the Shuttle  had installed Linux Mint, with of course the grub sector associated, a  nightmare, I didn’t  know about the grub things, the MDR, the GPT, I learned  fast !.
Then  came  the install : the Live ! DVD refused  to function at first, and  I had to change  my burning software (Brasero instead of  Xfburn) to get a properly  bootable DVD.
After that I tried to install the OS on the  HDD but  I made the error  of not carefully read the  manual (so : READ THE MANUAL  :) ) and of course I got a faulty result. Finally following the manual step by step and by taking  my time, I succeeded !
First action taken was to getting  rid  of the ‘sea of  pixels’ backdrop in favor of an elegant Aros wallpaper  found  in  my  Works partition. I tried to read a CD with the CDDA player, works fine. All the preipherals are detected by Trident. I came to realize that I couldn’t shut down Icaros by software (thanks to this  very forum I found  out  it is an expected behavior).
Next step will be integrating  the  Amibridge ressources, but  the  first  read of the  manual gave  me some headaches.
I am disappointed Icaros seems to not  support wifi at the  moment, it would  be a  more than welcome  update !
All in all, I am very pleased to have  an Amiga PC running fine !
