What I Enjoy Most About AROS

What do I enjoy most about AROS ?

One day long ago in early 1990, March or April, I made a decision. I was very pleased as I looked at the screen of my new 1084 Monitor that accompanied my new Amiga 500 that I had bought recently. At the same time I bought a book with a blue cover. It was titled "Amiga Basic Inside And Out" published by Abacus as many Amiga books were in those days.

Many things had led up to that moment. Two years prior to that in 1988 a friend of mine at the time was enjoying his very first Amiga 1000 computer. His family had bought it for him. I watched him play games and do many things with the Amiga. One game was Lotus Challenge or something like that with realistic looking race cars. The sound effects were good too. So I promised myself I would own an Amiga some day soon.

That day arrived in 1990 when I bought my first Amiga. I had spent a few weeks getting used to it. I wanted to see what it could do. I still have much of my original Amiga software. I mostly enjoyed playing Sid Meyers Pirates, and Patrician, and Centurion: Defender of Rome. They were great Amiga games.

I had been working on my very first basic program. It wasn't much but it was very impressive to me since I had never written any program before! It simply drew a circle on the screen. I was so amazed. I told myself "One day I will write Amiga programs!".

What I like most about AROS is writing those Amiga programs!! For me AROS is Amiga, but a more advanced modern version. 

So what do you enjoy most about AROS ?

In the early nineties I bought the first A500 for my son, looking at it immediately I fell in love buying first an A1200 and then an A4000/060, 2 CD32 with SX32 and then again A600HD. Then after the Commodore's bankruptcy I switched to PCs and made my experience becoming manager of company network and related software of PCs connected to the network.

I'm not a developer but I know well the Amiga systems, for me AROS is something different where despite my 67 years it stimulates me to use it and make my own creations, see distributions, graphic modifications, I would have liked to develop but I never had the patience to do it.

yes in the nineties like you miker I took a love 500 from a friend of mine, I was enough, then before the failure of commodore took a 1200 and for the first time I launched the workbench, I bought magazines, but then everything He stopped, the failure of Commodore, the magazines were no longer published.
I remember that I also connected my 1200 with a generic modem at 56kb, then I documented me on windows and bought a pc, after a newsstand I saw the magazines talking about Linux and bought them, but I hadn't forgotten the Amiga, learned some news of the Amigaone a long time later, I also happened to him like Morphos, but I was teased by Aros and so I began to use it with pleasure, I never had problems with hardware compatibility, many years have passed many years I always use this system with satisfaction , I don't use Odyssey much use and I hope you continue to work, then you also use some other Rnopublisher type application to write documents and Audioevolution to record audio, I only hope that there will always be movement around Aros, now Hollywood 9 is released and a few months ago Do Designer 5, so in the Amiga community it is taken into consideration and this pleases me, as I am pleased that Deadwood has returned to business
