Will it ever be 3d support for GMA 900? Or am i just doing it wrong?

Hello.

I made an Icaros dedicated machine from an old HP DC5100 small form factor. Wonderful. Been playing classics from my childhood like james pond and super cars for the last 2 days.
But i'm having trouble running the included OpenGL games like Hurrican, etc..
This machine uses Intel 915 GV Express chipset with integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900. From what i gather this is currently a 2D only chipset right?
Will it ever be support for 3D acceleration with GMA 900? Is it a technical possibility but just not a priority or is it impossible at all?

Or it's just the case that i'm missing some configuration step?

Thank you very much.

Hi. Thanks.

On this page https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Platforms/x86_support#Intel_GMA it seems that 915GM and 915 GMS (GMA900) are supported. Green squares on 2d and 3d.

If there are any PCI slots in your machine it would be worth looking at ebaying one of the supported nvidea cards - they work much better for 3D than the intel chipset in any case (3D on intel GMA is pretty weak).

Cheers,
Nigel.

Depends on the country. We have flea markets where graphics cards are sold with nails and pans. Sometimes workers.
There are free classifieds sites where all kinds of computer junk are sold. Ebay will never be as popular as the nation's marketplaces.

Hi.

Yes, for the time being i'm just trying it on a Pentium 4 3.2 ghz with 2GB DDR2 ram. Problem is it is a small form format pc, so quite limiting. It has however a free PCI-E x1 slot that can be modified to accept a regular PCI-E card. See https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/pci-e-16x-card-no-fit-in-pci-e-1x.424480/
I'm quite comfortable doing the mod, i'm experienced with this kind of stuff and i don't mind if i ruin it. Got a spare HP DC5100 anyway. These things come for free in the place where i work, they are basically dumping them, and honestly this system feels quite fast in ICaros 2.2.8. I don't intend to be a power user or daily drive an Aros machine, i just like tinkering and remembering my early nineties.

What would be good cheap 1 slot low profile card to run native opengl on aros? (i don't mind low frame rates)
This family of boards support Nvidia until Fermi. Would a GT210 be nice enough to run, say, Hurrican?

Thanks!

yes the gt210 is an excellent card perhaps the best, hurrican will work fine like all games that make use of 3d graphics acceleration :D
