I've never owned or used an Amiga in my life but I've always been fascinated with the Commodore 64 and dreamed of owning a Miggy, but they're really hard to come by here in Canada, and at today's prices, forget it. However, Aros really grabbed my attention as I was looking for a new modern OS that would run quick on my aging netbook and realized it was the perfect opportunity to dip my toes into the Amiga scene at the same time.

So uh, I'm giving Icaros a try! ;D Hello everyone!

I'm running it on an Eee PC 901. There's definitely a learning curve as it's nothing at all like the stuff I've used before but I'm liking it so far. I am struggling with getting on a wireless network though, and I'm experiencing a crash that happens when I boot up where the graphics on the screen get all garbled up and the system completely freezes. Anyone know how to fix the latter?

Aside than that, I like cats, drawing, and oldschool video games (I'm a huge Tetris and shmup fan), and I like toying around with computer hardware from every era. As an Amiga newbie, I'd appreciate any and all suggestions for games and productivity/art software!

Nice to meet you all!

That system looks really nice! The case is pretty neat too. Are you going to just Aros it up or are you going to run it as a Hosted System?

And yeah! I think I'm going to find another operating system for my Asus Eee PC 901 since I can't get wireless working (I might try Aeros, even though it was last updated 7 years ago), but I decided to take some old computer parts I had laying around to make a dedicated Linux/Hosted Aros system out of that instead. I'm using an old Compaq Presario 5002CA case, an Athlon X2 64 4200+, GeForce GTS 8600, 8GB DDR2, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, and a TP-Link 300Mbps PCI wireless card. It would probably work really well natively with Aros but with a Linux backbone I could use Synergy to integrate it with the rest of my setup.  8) I also want to run it full screen and in place of a window manager for the full effect.

Oh, I did eventually figure out my glitching screen/freezing problem. It happens whenever Aros 68k starts up automatically. I think once I get it all setup I want to try my hand on writing software for Aros. Maybe a small game.

Hello. Icaros Desktop is suited for Eee PC901 and similar hardware. If the native driver for Intel GMA fails to initialize your SVGA card correctly, please choose the advanced options for Icaros Desktop grub menu item and, once it has booted, remove the Intel GMA entry from Devs/Monitors (move it to Storage/Monitors), this should prevent Icaros from booting native graphics driver at next startup. Try also manually setting 1024x600 using VESA parameters as explained in the Quick and Dirty User Guide (icaros manual in Storage/Icaros Manuals).

Hey, I did figure out my problem earlier (Aros 68k was causin' it), but I'll keep that in mind if something comes up in the future. Thanks!

If the Wifi module is supported, would it be added automatically to the list of network devices under network preferences? I tried adding the "realtek8180.device" device after looking at the interface compatibility list and joining the wireless network, but I can't seem to get on at all.It tell me it can't restart the interface and I can't ping the other systems on the network. Does it only support WPA and not WPA2?

The only wireless interface is - AFAIK - Atheros5000 one.
