Looong ago I used GCC and text editor with plain C. Is there any ide in aros today?

There is vim 8.1 for AROS, so we do have an ide ;-)

I am an Emacs user, but Emacs has never been a truly good choice on the Amiga. Maybe it is time to learn some Vim, which kind of started on the Amiga.

Is Vim good on AROS / Amiga 68k?

Annotate is a syntax highlighting editor whose menus can be programmed using AREXX but I don't know if the AROS build of Regina is up to it.  It is open source though.

Vim after all started on AmigaOS, so it is an original AmigaOS software, ported to Linux and all those other platforms. How good the port is, I don't know, but I guess, it will work quite ok. Vim is most likely available on every platform you can find, so it should be quite portable.

Try it yourself, but be warned. The beginning might be hard, but after some years you will like it ;-). But after this time, you will be faster as most others, editing texts.

Vim is a historical Amiga software and I never tried it. I really should.

I know roughly what it is as I have emergency used 'vi' in the past. It was not until fairly recently that I understood why people use it.  ;)

Icaros Desktop Live! includes, in the Extras/TryFirst directory, AntiryadIDE for AROS.
