Hi All,

I received recently MacMini2,1. Specs look like tailored to run AROS out of the box, unfortunately, AROS doesn't boot at all. Does someone here try to run AROS on c2d Mac Mini?

Macs have EFI firmware and I'm pretty sure unhosted AROS needs BIOS instead.  Running Debian with hosted AROS on top should work though.  I run Debian on my Mac Mini and it does the job fairly well.

Hi all, sorry for digging this thread out but just to report that I managed to install Aros One 2.0/ Icaros (latest beta) on a A1176 Intel Mac Mini.
i hacked the mini with 2,1 firmware, replaced the cpu for T7600 2.33 Ghz C2D and 4GB Ram (only 3GB recognized).
Also changed de hardisk to a Kingston A400 240GB SSD and replaced internal PCIe Wifi for a AR5007EG (internal Marvell ethernet and wifi don't work).

All works except sound and ethernet. Sound shows as detected (hdaudio), driver is loaded, but there is no sound output at all either on internal speaker or headphone jack.
Also tried a CMI USB Audio, same result, detected, driver loaded but.. nothing. Anyway this setup would be a great addition to run Aros systems, if audio driver could be patched  and get an ethernet driver, it would be great, this system runs really fast and stable.

For now it's being used as a dual boot Aros/Windows 7 system.

Regards

I just tried with and without ";" on the query line.  HDAudio is correctly detected, volume is correctly set and
there is only one output non selectable "Line". No sound output either on speaker or headphones.

Mee too it would be great if so, there a lot of Mac minis like this one around and they are great machines to run Aros, very stable and fast.
Maybe the Codec is not supported (ICH7 : Sigmatel Stac 9221). I have been searching around this and I found that maybe it just needs a
"pin" reconfiguration in the driver source code.

Something like in the patch for linux driver:

https://docs.huihoo.com/doxygen/linux/kernel/3.7/patch__sigmatel_8c_source.html

How did you get it to boot on a Mac Mini? AROS doesn't support UEFI yet,

No it does not, but it boots in legacy mode.
The machine uses 32-bit x86 EFI v1.1 firmware but also supports BIOS boot compatibility.

Just burn the DVD and boot with it using the C key. Dont bother trying USB boot this models do
not support it.

Even better, I remember AROS (icaros in particular) boots on an Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.33 24" Imac 6,1. I think the nvidia video card is supported but not the Wifi and sound. I stopped playing with because of that but these are very nice machines if AROS could be fully supported. I still own one, I am going to take some pics if I can.

As for the Wifi you can replace it with an AR5007EG it works fine with the atheros5000.device driver on mine.
We just need to have sound on the Macs. Well ethernet would be great too but for now Wifi will do the work, slower but fine.

The sound problem is interesting because if you install AROS on a VM using the HDAudio driver, it also happens as described on previous posts.
So this maybe a common issue of the driver.
