Thank you all for the feedback.

I will insert the SD card when AROS is installed and hope for the best.
That is If the ZG5 ever gets here - ebay says it has been dispatched, so it is sat in a Royal Mail depot somewhere - and they have just voted to go on strike again.  >:(

If SD and Samba don't work I can use a USB key for data transfer - I found an old 4GB one last night.

You can also use larger USB keys, they work well, I don't know if my English was understood, as mentioned an external USB HD is the best choice because it is faster, also if you also have a FAT32/NTFS partition you can also share it between AROS and other OS. Also as mentioned also the installation on external HD is much faster besides you can also use it on other Computers.

NTFS seems to work fine with HDs but it doesn't work with Pendrives, at least on the ones cho I tested, could anyone confirm this?

Well - It has arrived!

The battery is as dead as a stone - Windows 7 does not even recognize there is a battery connected. It looks like I can get a replacement battery for about £20, so I am thinking about getting one. I guess that I can just clip this new battery in and get it charged.

First impressions of the hardware are good - There are no scratches or dents anywhere. The screen does not have a mark on it, and is nice and clear. It is smaller than I expected, but this makes it nice and portable (just need a new battery). I like the keyboard a lot - it is compact, but very nice to type on. Downsides are - the small screen; however since there is a VGA output on the side I think I will get a VGA to HDMI adapter so I can connect to a monitor. I have a spare USB keyboard and mouse, so when at home it will be used a psedo desktop tower machine. The other minus is the touchpad - far too small, and the buttons being placed on either side makes it horrible to use. I will be using a USB mouse instead.

The seller has placed a clean install of Windows 7 on it, so all I need to do is shrink its partition to make room for AROS. I will then run some diagnostic tools such as speedfan and GSmartControl on it to give the hardware a thorough test. Keen to get AROS installed, but I want to do the boring groundwork first.

For a laptop built in 2008, and paying £40 for it - I think I have a bargain.  :)

It's actually very nice, AROS One x86 It's actually very nice, I too have an Acer Aspire One Z5, mine has the battery that works but only for a few minutes (if I freeze it in the fridge for a few days) it lasts a few minutes longer :)

The only problem is on my internal HD which is "dead" it is not even detected by the operating system, replacing the HD seems to be not easy, it seems to be soldered.

In the end I decided to use an External USB Harddisk as HD, much faster than a PenDrive, I too have an Acer Aspire One Z5, mine has the battery that works but only for a few minutes (if I freeze it in the fridge for a few days) it lasts a few minutes longer :)

For Dual Boot be careful and follow the instructions carefully

Thanks all.
I have run the diagnostics - speedfan show that the internal temperature stays low when left on for a few hours; so no need to open the unit and clean it.
GSmartControl reports that the hard drive is "old age". This is no surprise for a 2008 laptop; however the read/write tests on the disk report no errors. I will use the HDD and hope for the best. If it fails, it is possible to get SSD drives that fit the unit.
Have shrunk the Windows 7 partition down using it's disk manager and taken a full disk backup with clonezilla. If the AROS install goes wrong, I have a saved state to roll back to.

Remember that the partition you left for AROS is "RAW" no initialization and no formatting, if you do this InstallAROS will see only that partition and will not touch the others, also in the FRUB Aros will add Win7 :)

Just install Windows first after aros loads and you start the Installer and choose the "Only Use Free Space" option in the end you will find the Windows item on Grub

No Salvo is good only if you install Windows first.
If on the other hand the hardisk already has Windows installed is you have to create a new partition or shrink the partition or use an existing one already formatted, if not do as described it also destroys the Windows partition !

---- Italiano -----

No Salvo va bene solo se installi prima Windows
Se invece l'hardisk ha gią Windows installato č devi creare una nuova partizione o restringere la partizione o usare una esistente gią formattata, se no fai quanto descritto distrugge anche la partizione Windows !

Ok - So at the moment I have shrunk the Windows 7 partition, so there is 78GB of unallocated space on the drive.
Do I need to create partitions with a file system to install AROS onto before booting the USB and installing, or will AROS create the partitions and create the file system during the USB booted install procedure?

As said what you need to verify, is that the free 78GB space must be "RAW" no initialization and no formatting.

Clearly InstallAROS will take the whole partition of "78GB" where during installation you can leave all "78GB" for DH0, or split it in two creating DH1 as well, see my attached video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXG7u3uPpvo

If, on the other hand, you still want to subdivide "78GB" and didicate a third partition to AROS, you will still have to leave one of these "RAW" partitions so that AROS will recognize it as the only available disk,

Ok - So all installed.
Dual boot between Windows and AROS working fine.

When AROS loads, I get an error of:
Can't find SYS:Extras/Music/Timidity

Any idea on how to fix this?

This is known problem on AROS when installing on two partitions, on AROS One v1.8 I corrected the problem, what version of AROS One do you have installed.

You basically have the assign by default when installing everything on DH0.

I have installed AROS One 1.7.
Looks like I need to install the newer one - 1.8.

The other thing I was wondering about is how to set up the wi-fi.
If someone could give me some pointers on this, I would be grateful.
