A bit late but...
I was having a similar issue. In the bios I change the setting on the sata controller to IDE thinking this was required. That was a mistake for me and gave me the same result you mentioned.
When I returned the sata mode setting back to AHCI the AROS installer continued past the black screen.

The discs are detected and the sata mode installation concludes, but then when using the system you get disk errors

Yes, you are correct.
I went through most programs on Tiny to see when the ahci error would strike. It was predictable that three programs would cause this error, they were; OWB, Mplayer and a search utility that I can not remember the name of. But, to my surprise, if I copied OWB and Mplayer into the Ram Disk and run from there they appeared to work fine (all though I haven't got an internet card yet to test connection stability).

I've spent the last two days looking at Icaros and Tiny and generally trying to learn the old Amiga ways and it has been most interesting!

I think a hearty congratulations to all developers is in order. You have all done some incredible work. AROS does not get the recognition it deserves but you should, Well done everyone!

yes if you run the applications from the ram there is no problem because it has no access to the disk, thank you for all aros is a system born from the effort of many programmers now the situation has changed, they are a few that work there is a pity that Don't have a full AHCI compatibility yet.

I see on Power to People website a gentleman by the name of Jason McMullan was writing the/a sata driver. Is he still active or is there anyone else I could talk to regarding the driver?

Jason did the Aros 68k port and was very active at that time. Later he got a new job and was not allowed to do anything. Since then I have not seen him anymore or read anything from him. That was some years ago.

Yes, I see. This is unfortunate but not a show stopper. What AROS has got makes it work very well, and I have learned it is used by other (x86 and non x86) projects as well. Further testament of how good it is.

When I think of the high price's nowadays for original hardware and also new motherboards/systems that have been developed, I feel very lucky to use AROS on my home computer as a real Amiga OS, and not another emulation program.

I am also interested in BeOS. I note that Haiku has taken 20 years to get to its current beta release and also looks wonderful. The big deference between AROS and Haiku is that Haiku receives between 10-20 thousand dollars a year, yet AROS has done similar with very little.

So, I am very grateful for AROS. Thank you to everyone involved.

I would like to donate some beer money. Without wishing to offend anyone it is rather confusing where the beer should go!

Paolo Besser is the name on the icaros website donate button (nice and clear), but on AROS website I see donation on power to people for four projects. I would likely choose achi/sata and 64 bit development. But is there not a central AROS core development donate link?

There is no central foundation collecting money for aros. Power2People was nice but I am not aware of active projects there currently. Deadwood is the most active aros developer I am aware of currently but do not know if you can donate him something. The other developer who is aros dev is michal schulz who is doing emu68 (PiStorm) currently. He can be supported by patreon https://www.patreon.com/posts/new-kid-on-block-63677017

After I second look I found a donation link on the AROS download page!

It lists three developers to individually donate to. This is perhaps difficult to donate without offending anyone!

Are all three still actually developing?
I know Deadwood is through reading the forum and from the above post. The paypal link gives real names only therefore I ask is Deadwood on that list?
