Uh. IconDresser is a veeeeeery old script that barely overwrites icons without processing them. It was tailored for the mininal evolution stage AROS was when it was written and should NOT be used anymore.

Now we have processicon which does a far better work, although it must be done manually. By the way, I use it in many places in Icaros, from InconPoser to HostBridge and AmiBridge. I've even turned its readme into a .guide file to let the command 'help processicon' work, because I always forget its syntax.

As for the contact with application developers: I still do what I can, but I have many projects to follow and Icaros Desktop is just only one of them. To let you forgive me, I am releasing v2.3 before Christmas.

About the general volume applet: I cannot complete it. I've asked the community for a master volume CLI utility but nobody provided me one. If only we had a 'mixer' port from OS4... but we haven't it. Problem is, as fas as I could understand, that AHI doesn't expose a 'general' master volume control setting. But if you open AHI control, you'll find one in a form of a slider. I hoped someone could look into AHI prefs source and re-use that part, or take inspiration from. The Zune GUI for it is ready, though.

I think I might make an attempt to write some software for AROS at some point but for that I'd much prefer to develop on hardware instead of the cross-compile approach as above.
I get your preference as i had the same thought as well when i started out.

However, i changed my mind when hosting became stable/usable. I now use a Linux development environment (used to be windows) which also runs AROS hosted. Not in a virtual machine software but native (yes, whole of AROS as a single process  :P ).

You might perhaps want to take a look at axrt project from deadwood as well, as that allows you to use the native (=hosted) tools and allows to compile your AROS project to be able to run (native) on your host.

But you are right because even then i like to run AROS native on a big rig and do some native development there.

Just saying that there are (other) options  :)

When I'm ready for that I did notice the forum here and I'm sure the development stuff in AROS will have useful examples and such to get me started.
There is a special test directory which is full of examples. And the AROS source-tree is one big example as well  ;)

Don't forget that AROS is API compatible with classic Amiga OS, so you might want to have a look at aminet as well and download some programs that have their source-code provided (or get them from whatever place you prefer). As long as it isn't specifically addressing the hardware you should be good to go.
