Hey guys! I just did a clean install to the latest Icaros Desktop - previously I was running a very old 1.x version.

I have a GeForce FX 5200 AGP graphic card that worked with native graphics in Icaros 1.x.  It's running on a Athlon 64 system.

However in the latest version the kernel is hanging on boot if I try to use native graphics.  It hangs on this line:

[drm(INFO)] Detected card: 0x10de/0x322 - AGP

VESA works but is a bit sluggish...

Anyone have any ideas what I could do to get the native graphics working again?

Thanks!

Darren

I assume the hardware is defect. I had a similar issue but additionally stripes on the screen. Vesa still showed something, but with 3D just a black screen or so. I have heaten the graphic chip and now it is working again.

Do you have with linux or other OS the same issue?

Hi Thanks for your reply.  I am using Amithlon on the same computer.  It works fine with the native GeForce driver of kernel 4.  Also as of a couple days ago when I was running Icaros 1.x it was also working fine in native GeForce....so I think the hardware is ok.   Perhaps they dropped support for an AGP GeForce 5200 card in later versions of Aros? :(

I find it a bit sluggish without the native graphics.   I will see if I have another supported AGP graphics card to try.

I am sorry, but I am quite surprised AGP FX5200s actually worked. I don't know if parts of the kernel were removed between v1 and v2, however I suspect something might have broken AGP support. Other people with an AGP card from nVidia might confirm.

I went back to Icaros 1.1.2 and installed it last night.  It has as separate entry in the Grub menu for NVidia Graphics.  If I select that, native graphics works and all the resolutions are available and it's noticably faster.

I then tried Icaros Desktop 2.2.x (can't remember exactly which one, but an early one) and it doesn't work, but now there is no separate grub entry to pick for NVidia graphics.  So something changed between the 1.x and 2.x releases.  Was there a different nvidia graphics driver released at some point?

It's really a pity :( as the newer Icaros release are of course far better.
