Hey guys,

I was an Amiga user/owner (and even coded some stuff) back in the days. I still have an A1200 (which will be enhanced with a Pistorm) and intend to do some more stuff with it and I hope to do some work on AROS itself.

I stumbled upon this site since I'm somewhat confused with the site aros.org which doesn't seem to be really current anymore. Also the development mailing list doesn't seem to be active and I don't know how to register to the Development Slack Channel if it's still active.

Can anyone point me to the right (meaning current) resources in order to get going with AROS development (especially since the linux hosted x64 doesn't compile for me) ?

Welcome!  :)

My Pi Storm32 Lite and Pi 3A+ just arrived yesterday. I haven't had time yet to assemble everything but I look forward to that.

The Developer Mailing List is active. I get messages on a regular basis.

Maybe deadwood or someone else could point you in the right direction.

Welcome  ^^

Slackchat is reachable under link on offical aros-site (http://www.aros.org/contact.php). You need to get at least an e-mailadress for joining (related to Slack).

About development: AxRuntime is the adress you looking for. https://www.axrt.org/

I have tried it with a Linux Mint 21 with Cinnamon as Desktop enviroment but failed building. So called "Mate" could work.
Here is a link to Linux Mint .iso: https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=300

Your sincerely,
Studenteer

That's still the current site. Well, the news section could get a new entry.

The mailing list is quite silent because there aren't many developers left. I was told that the slack channel has a limited number of members so it's better to access it by

Did you follow these steps?

Please tell if something doesn't work as intended.

Nice to see so many replies. I got a response on the mailing list which I overlooked. Unfortunately it was sitting in the trash (where I almost never look into). I suspect a case of fatfinger syndrom so I'm the moron to blame here.
I followed the instructions though the response included some additional steps I didn't find on the official site aros.org:
Quote
git submodule init
git submodule update
I'm currently compiling and I'm hoping it to go through (might take some time).

The few problems that I encountered when compiling AROS are really basic. Missing packages or sites that can't be reached to download packages. So I end up downloading the missing files directly. Then start compiling again. Of course it helps to make sure your internet connection is active before compiling.

Other than that if you follow the build instructions it should just work. Good luck with that.  :)

Hello and welcome,

If you are interested in building current 32-bit version (the one that is the base for Icaros Desktop, AROS One and Tiny Aros distributions), here are the instructions: https://github.com/deadw00d/AROS/blob/alt-abiv0/INSTALL.md

If you are looking for AROS m68k (one for your upgraded A1200), Mazze's instructions are correct.

Can you tell me what failed building? The desktop environment itself should not have impact on the build process.

I was running it on Virtual Box and got stucked on downloading packaged. It was some weeks ago, but aslong as I know, there was some kind of corruption. I'll checking it again and contact you.

Thanks. Can you 'wget https://zlib.net/fossils/zlib-1.2.12.tar.gz' from your VM? I was able to download that package without a problem.

"wget" on right folder was successfull, but seems as builder waiting for dead process (seeing attachement).

Check the portssources directory. There is a hidden file there created for each download. Delete it and check if this helps. If not, delete the whole portsources directory.
