PlayCDDA For AROS x86

Yesterday the good cavemann pointed me to a version of PlayCDDA to put on my upcoming AROS One x86, it is PlayCDDA.

Today after doing some tests with PlayCDDA, I found some anomalies and different behavior when used on Real PC or Virtual Machine.

- The version that cavemann reported to me is v1.6 used by Icaros, which unlike the one on the Aros archive, allows graphical buttons to be added to the GUI.

- I will preface this by saying that PlayCDDA v1.6 in order to work on a Real PC you have to change the DOSDEV=CD0 or CD1, CD2 or some other strange acronym, depending on the PC used.

- However, I have noticed that PlayCDDA v1.6 works well on Real PCs, but does not work on Virtual Machines (VMWare and VirtualBox).

PlayCDDA v1.6 on Virtual Machines, on the other hand, does not need the DOSDEV in the Tooltype, although then it cannot play the tracks due to the erroce shown below.

- PlayCDDA v1.5 downloaded from Aminet on the other hand works fine on VMWare, even if you do not use DOSDEV in the tooltype.

- The same PlayCDDA v1.5 downloaded from Aminet on the other hand does not work on VirtualBOX.

Sorry, I don't use a Virtual Machine, so I can't test it. The errors don't seem related to any changes I made. Perhaps the original author might help.

Hi cavemann regarding compatibility on VM, I reported the problem to the developer "Fredrik Wikstrom", who told me that for the next version of PlayCDDA (v2.1) is consolidating the sources of the different PlayCDDA GUI ports (AmigaOS 3.x, 4.x and AROS) and adding some improvements like auto detection of CD drives by scanning the DOS devices list and CDDA playback handled by a higher priority sub-process.

Regarding the display of buttons on your reported version 1.6 used by Icaros, I found that it does not use the standard image path "AISS-TBimages", but uses a folder in the PlayCDDA path.

On AROS One x86 I installed the native 1.5 "Fredrik Wikstrom" version which works fine on VM, which now correctly displays the buttons installed in "TBimages:" see screenshot

Hi miker1264, how are you doing, all is well !

As you know I like beautiful graphics, as I always say the eye wants its part, presenting itself well is an advantage, in many cases the choice of software is also motivated by its graphic appearance, and maybe stimulates more in trying it.

Reason why I try to take the best care of the graphical aspect of AROS One, in many cases it is the first thing that is appreciated, as is amply demonstrated in THIS discussion on amigaworld.net.
