Getting back into Unix OSs after some time, college really though I did try some Linux distros in the late 90's, by installing GhostBSD on an old laptop.  It's a distro of FreeBSD aimed at desktop use.  Started with Dragonfly originally, but that was a bit much so back to basics.  Dragonfly is also lacking in some ports I wanted.
After working with GhostBSD for awhile I thought I'd try out the Linux compatibility layer.  Fortune favors the bold so why not try seeing if Icaros Desktop could be installed hosted.   Worked better than I thought.  As in it installed, networking didn't due to differences between Linux and BSD.  That would have been a bonus. Sadly starting Icaros only got so far.  Farther than I though it would. I figured the install script would have just errored out right off or just throw lots of errors.
.Once I get a handle on things, a ways off, maybe I'll take a look at what's going on and what's needed
Way back there used to be a base AROS version that was FreeBSD hosted.  Maybe someday
It was a fun experiment.  For you amusement, see image

With all respect, I have already issues helping people to run Icaros hosted on non-supported Linux distributions (read: anything different than Ubuntu and Mint), there's simply no chance I will investigate into BSD related problems...

Wasn't expecting support     Just sharing my fun little experiment    Actually expected the install script to fail
But I need to really work on getting back into BSD before I even think about looking into if it's possible or even my own BSD hosted distro

GhostBSD comes with MATE   I just themed it up with some Gnome 2 window borders and pointer
Their community edition comes with XFCE.  So I might try that with this next version just to have a standard desktop across my installs

Just installed Mint with XFCE tonight to get going on Icaros hosted

What's the Slack channel?

Working on getting it running hosted on Mint.  Chasing down libs with each error.

so far it appears to me to be a better irc, where you can easier coordinate the work and communicate. it was an initiative of marlon to use it for amiga cross platform development but since michal and kalamatee joined it is very active what concerns aros. also few other aros developers are already there.
