See RNO Effects in action!

With this program, you can apply one or more effects to a whole set of images, no matter their size or their number. Just open RNO Effects, decide what to apply and where, and you're quickly done. Don't you believe it? I'm going to show you in the following video how quick and simple it has become, with this little great program, the formerly impossible task (at least on AROS, with cosy GUI-based applications) of converting 800 and more 128x128 PNG images into 64x64 pixel ones. And this is just an appetizer. I will try to show you something more useful in the next days.

I like it. I'm happy to find fpc and although I've had issues configuring janus-uae2, I think it's getting better than linux. Adding a protection ring virtualizer (multi system so crashes only drop one desktop), and maybe user/task file lockers per desktop in the ring would improve the security to excellent. Multiple virtual boxes let lose on the same filesystem?

I might even promote it to dual boot.

It will be absolutely if AROS can get its own native ports of many of the best Free/Libre Open Source Creativity Software like GIMP, Blender, Audacity, OpenShot, etc. I hope such ports will be included with future versions of Icaros

You can get the best of both worlds using Icaros Desktop in hosted mode, on Linux. Just configure it to start with your window manager and set resolutions accordingly, then launch Linux applications with HostBridge.

Unluckily I am not good at all with Linux, at least not at the point to be able to customize so much a Linux distro. Otherwise, I'd sincerely have at least tried to create one launching a basic window manager and Icaros Desktop, with hostbridge already configured to handle all mandatory linux programs. From the user point of view, it would have been like using Linux with the interface of Amiga.

Paolo: I where little fast about the use of the new ata.device in AspireOS. There is one computer now that I tested where it did not work, but the old one does.

When booting Icaros Light from CD-RW on real hardware (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo laptop), there is a dialog that appears at the end saying:

Quote
System requester
Please insert volume "P" in any drive
Retry                  Cancel

Clicking Retry does nothing (the dialog reappears), clicking Cancel makes the dialog go away and everything still seems to work.

The slow installer is  slow from my slow CD-RW slow drive, don't know if that can be improved.  But its progress bar keeps resetting to 0% after each top level directory, without a global progress indicator to let me know how much longer it is likely to take, which is very frustrating... currently on System/timidity 94%, having taken about 45mins so far...  I do suppose a 1x speed CD takes over an hour to play as audio, so maybe slow is just how it is, not sure what speed my drive is being used at by AROS.

I also noticed some ".svn/" directories (Subversion revision control system metadata) being copied by the installer, these should probably be stripped out during the CD build process, or?

VESA 1024x768 true colour graphics seems to work fine with no issues, I haven't tried native yet, not any OpenGL stuff.

Great job, Paolo! Keep up the good work. Icaros just keeps getting better and better.

I had a few issues with the installation. I decided to install AROS from a USB drive, since my netbook has no CD/DVD drive. When I clicked the icon to create a USB installation pendrive, it told me to look at Chapter 3 of the manual. I opened the manual, but Chapter 3 said nothing about installing from a pendrive. I then right clicked the icon for the drive on the desktop and clicked "Format Disk". The dialog only gave me the option to format as "Fast File System" (I couldn't find any way to format as SFS). Nonetheless, I went with it and formatted with FFS anyway. However, when I viewed the disk information in Magellan, it listed "FAT2" as the filesystem. Huh? There's no such thing as FAT2. At this point, I Googled and found your blog post, and followed the directions there, and was able to install successfully.

I also did find the download and installation to be quite slow. It took over an hour to install everything on my Eee PC. ZUnzip probably isn't optimal in terms of performance.

@ninjaCowboy
In fact Chapter 3 has become Chapter 2 in the meanwhile, so I have fixed the script to reflect this change. Thank you for reporting this.
