Hi,

Perhaps it is my misunderstanding on how a search is suppose to work on the Aros Archives, but i got issues with it  :)

Take for example the search keyword "theme". Filled it in, pressed the search button and the search function returns a list of results.

What the heck is the problem with that, you might ask ? ...

... well, take a closer look at the search results, and please tell me if you are able to spot a theme manager in that returned result list.

Now you might be able to come up with a reasonable explanation: "but magorium, there is no theme manager on the archives so hence it clearly will not return such a thing in the results"

That is where my issues starts, because there actually are several, see:
1) theme.zip
2) thememanager.zip
3) theme_managerthemes.zip

The keyword "theme" is actually located in both the filename(s) and the description(s).

This is a clear example that i am able to proof, but i started noticing this to be an issue for a longer period of time because i am sometimes certain a particular file is available on the archives but the search does not always seem to include that what i am actually looking for.

Is this the expected/intended and desired outcome for such a search or is it perhaps a regression/bug ?

you used the simple search I assume

if you use SQL Search and put in theme in Name then you get the correct results

Thank you Olaf.

That at least fixes my problem

However, it does not explain the hits you get with the simple search for those results that do return in the resulted list. The files i mentioned should be in there as well, or... the simple search should not return the results that it currently does.

Right now it seems to return random results, based on... well you tell me  :)  From what i gather it at least searches the description, because some results do not even have the name (or part thereof) "theme" in the filename.

@magorium

There is default search limit of 20. If you change it to 100, the files you mentioned appear. Probably it would be helpful to display something like "Showing first 20 results", but the software used for archives is not controlled by us.

Stupid me  :D

I fixed my own problem.... show more results  :-[

edit: @deadwood
Our posts crossed  :)

Yes, indeed. It would be nice to have that more prominent displayed somewhere. I was looking for the next button, did not see one and assumed there were no more results.

If that is not under our control then so be it.
