installing Icaros in VirtualBox

Hello,

I'm trying to install Icaros Live! 2.2.8 in VirtualBox 6.1 on windows 10. Everything seems to go ok and I can boot from my .vdi hd But the problem is everything is too slow making it unusable.  Painting and repainting screen is so slow you almost can see the raster drawing the sceen, mouse movement is also too much slow and with inertial effect. It's not possible to change screen configuration since only 1600x1200 resolution is available.

The most strage thing is this only happens after installing to HD, while booting from iso CD everything is fine.

Any idea of what's happening here?

I suspect Icaros Desktop is using experimental vmware video driver on VirtualBox, but while vmware virtual machines can be detected during installation (with Icaros asking if you wish to use it or classic VESA modes), virtualbox ones aren't. Hence, the driver is used no matter if it is good for virtualbox or not.


To fix this, just move vmware driver from Devs/Monitors to Storage/Monitors.

vmware driver is already in Storage/Monitors,  in Dev/monitors there're 5 drivers. This distribution is the same present when booting from live cd iso and here runs pretty fast

I cannot see any difference in booting parameters or drivers between installed version and live one, sure I don't know where to look at

Is there any way to force a graphic drive from grub boot menu?

You can also try changing the graphics subsystem in your VM settings. Settings->Screen->Graphics Controller.

I am new here, but I just installed v2.3 on VirtualBox and had the same problems.  I then tried installing v2.3 on VMWare.  VMWare (so long as you dont use the beta video driver) works REALLY well.  It seems speedier than VirtualBox, higher resolution, disk access is snappier, etc...  Try VMWare Player (Free).
