Which AROS One v2.8 archive did you download? can you provide the link

On AROS One, no .tgz file exists !

Bin volume on AROS One is already assigned, see Package-Startup file located in the path Extras/Development/S/Package-Startup

Love the distro btw, found a small problem though when unzipping .tgz files, a requester for "Insert bin:"

Solved with a simple "Assign bin: c:" in startupsequence, so no big problem,
something to fix for the next release

Thanks for your hard work

I didn't quite understand what you wanted to do, so let's continue the discussion on the arosworld reference site where you might get some more help! this site is currently blocked for new users!

Are you running AROS 32bit or AROS v11 64bit? Do you run QEmu from Windows or Linux?

32 bit AROS v0. Linux.

Quote
QEmu can run AROS directly see attached video:

I know, I'm AROS developer, but not really active since long time.

The idea with qemu user mode wouid just to be to have a "68k hosted AROS" (or "PPC hosted AROS) without the need
to run it on a full 68k Linux/BSD/whatever host OS (either on real machine or emulated).

General Chat / Running AROS hosted in qemu user mode emulation
« Last post by aros-sg on April 24, 2025, 02:19:24 AM »
Hi

Out of curiosity I tried running AROS Linux hosted i386 under qemu-i386 (emulates only cpu, not a whole system) on x64 computer.
It boots up into Wanderer but there's some issues with filesystem. Doesn't find files, etc. Also in shell.

That's with 8.2.9 version of qemu-i386. Has someone tried with newer version?

If there was (as used to be) working m68k hosted or ppc hosted Linux version of AROS, one could use qemu-m68k or qemu-ppc to
run 68k (also Amiga 68k) or PPC compiled programs (only AROS, not MOS or AOS4) on x64 computer with cpu emulation only,
no system emulation (like UAE).

Is it possible to get a torrent for this? Google drive either times out, or says too many people are downloading this file, try again in 24 hours

The new version of AROS One x86 v2.8 32-bit is available for download.

This version integrates the last three years of AROS development and brings the 32-bit kernel to the same level as the upcoming 64-bit version of AROS.

The new kernel offers improved support for the latest hardware with ACPI support, as well as improvements to disk and network drivers, as well as updates to the core system libraries and more than 60 bug fixes in AROS programmes and libraries.

Additional work has also been done to stabilise drivers for virtual environments (VirtualBox, VMware and QEMU), so that AROS can be tested in a virtualised environment before deciding to purchase dedicated hardware.

Icaros Desktop / ICAROS DESKTOP DOWNLOAD LINKS
« Last post by paolone on January 25, 2025, 09:15:12 AM »
Hello. Google minions decided that the following links somehow hurt their "rules of the community", maybe for security reasons, maybe for copyright concerns, whatever. Since I am not going to loose my precious time trying to convince them of their obvious mistake, I will reproduce here the original links of the download page. Feel free to use torrents or other file sharing technologies to help distribution, but please keep it unmodified. Thanks for your collaboration and sorry for the issue. USE RIGHT CLICK and SAVE AS...

ICAROS DESKTOP LIVE!
The complete Icaros Desktop environment on a bootable live-DVD. It includes everything included in the Light edition, but adds dozens of applications like image editors, drawing programs, music composers, converters, programming languages and the whole AROS SDK with tools and libraries. It can run natively on your hardware, or hosted on Windows and Linux.
Current version: 2.3
Md5: f2e4fdbc71f48e35dccfe6c26ae07a8f
Download - 2.32 GB .zip file format

ICAROS DESKTOP LIGHT
A smaller version of the Live! Distribution, targeted for CD-R and pendrives. It's the perfect fit if you just want to quickly test your system. It includes AROS system and Icaros mandatory programs like browser, media player and the Amiga compatibility layer. It can run natively on your hardware, or hosted on Windows and Linux.
Current version: 2.3
Md5: a469a92982842303bbe904efe1d09ea6
Download - 384 MB .zip file format

ICAROS DESKTOP LIVE! PENDRIVE
An experimental version of the Light Distribution, targeted for pendrives. You just need a 2GB pendrive and a program like
PassMark ImageUSB to restore the image (or a similar solution for Linux). Beware of the fact that your pendrive will be cleaned off completely with any data already available on it and, more over, any space available on bigger drives will be wasted, until you recover it by cleaning off the AROS partition and re-format the pendrive again.
Current version: 2.3
Md5: 3674262fe09cd58864df2ece2f0fd168
Download - 1.34 GB .zip file format
]NOTE: as our friend Magorium pointed out, PassMark ImageUSB places a 512 byte header before the actual partition. So, if you're using dd on a Linux environment to write the bin file to the USB pendrive, you must strip that header before writing:

dd bs=512 skip=1 status=progress if=icaros_
light_2-3-0_pendrive.bin of=icaros_light_2-3-0_pendrive_OK.bin && sync
