Title: New distributions?
Post by: Mazze on December 25, 2020, 01:17:34 PM
I read about some new distros.

I could add them to https://aros.sourceforge.io/download.php#distributions
if you give me:
- download link
- short description
- last not least: ABI v0 or v1

yes this is my distribution "tiny aros" is based on abiv0, i used the default theme of aros and the retrofunk icons that are on archives all to my taste let's say retro style with the addition of other icons in a pictorial style

Tiny AROS is on the download page:
Thank you for the addition.

On a side note (not sure if it is ok to address you for it and doing it here), have you noticed that the text ""If your distribution isnt listed but you feel it should be, contact the AROS Dev Team." is stuffed at the location that seem reserved for a logo for the distribution ? (i noticed in both mobile and desktop browsers firefox and chrome).

It was right aligned which didn't look good, too. Maybe I move the text out of the table.

I share that opinion (now that you mentioned it, i remembered how it looked before e.g. not very pretty as well)

Quote
Maybe I move the text out of the table.
Just some random thoughts (in case you haven't thought of it yourself already):
1. merge the last row in the table, and centre the text amongst the merged columns
2. keep the original layout intact, but 'push' the concept of the table by adding a new 'distribution' named "your distribution ?" (or something similar), with the mentioned text put back at the right column

... or your option to put it in the same "paragraph" but out of the table (underneath).

I have no idea what would be the easiest to implement or if  it actually works for the webpage. I do believe that your option would be the most logical and easiest to implement ?

ps, it seems that user salvo attached some sort of a logo that you could use  ?

@salvo: the logo looks very nice, but in all honesty the red text is very difficult to read on such a background. Perhaps you could play with a outlined font to make it look better ?

@mazze:
Splendid. Thank you very much for your work.

I understand what you mean. The quoted text-part still looks a bit orphaned/lost, though it looks better/cleaner this way (at least for me).

I've added the logo and moved the text out of the table.

Many thanks it's fine, then maybe when the new version of AROS One 68k will be available you could split it and create two separate reviews.

AROS One 68k works very well but I'm waiting for it to become more stable and perform better on WinUAE, you can see it here:

Oh well, I'm currently working on nothing. That won't change in the next months.

Everyone has to take a break from time to time. I hope all is well.

Though I work from home full time I'm still updating some datatypes and a few other things from time to time though mostly it is for ABIv0. Some of that may be sent up to ABIv1.

Most recently I added Save 16 bit for BMP and Save 8 bit for JPEG as well as complete save functions for Targa and PCX with permission from Frederik Wikstrom. He added me to some of his projects on OpenAmiga but I'm not sure I'll have time.

I added the changes for JPEG datatype to ABIv0 main repo already. Soon I plan to test. changes for BMP and add it to main.

Thanks for helping with the newer distros. Much appreciated.
